Every farming operation has its own requirements, from dryland production and irrigation to disease pressure, maturity and yield potential. This month, we are putting the spotlight on a selection of Capstone Seeds varieties with characteristics suited to different production needs.

HYBRID GRAIN SORGHUM -

CAP 1003

CAP 1003 is a shorter-growing sorghum hybrid reaching approximately 140 cm in height and around 70 days to 50% flowering. It has very good standability and bird resistance due to its high tannin content, with a moderate number of tillers, good MDMV resistance and a semi-open panicle.

HYBRID GRAIN SORGHUM -

CAP 1005

CAP 1005 reaches approximately 50% flowering in 80-85 days and is ready for harvest in around 140-145 days. Growing to approximately 155 cm at physiological maturity, it offers good standability together with tolerance to head smut, leaf diseases and stalk rot.

YELLOW OPEN-POLLINATED MAIZE - OKAVANGO DENT

OKAVANGO DENT is a medium-maturing synthetic open-pollinated variety (SOPV). It offers excellent tolerance to Grey Leaf Spot, together with good resistance to Leaf Blight and Rust, making it a practical option where disease tolerance is an important consideration.

WHITE OPEN-POLLINATED MAIZE - NELSON'S CHOICE

NELSON'S CHOICE is a medium-season white open-pollinated variety with hard, clean white grain. It offers excellent tolerance to Grey Leaf Spot, good standability and good synchronisation between silk emergence and pollen shed, supporting stable and consistent yield performance. It also has good resistance to Northern Leaf Blight and Rust.

YELLOW HYBRID MAIZE - CAP 95-22

CAP 95-22 is a medium maturity, prolific hybrid. Our yellow hybrid, CAP 95-22 can give high grain yields of up to 12mt/ha when planted under high population density of between 60 000 - 70 000 plants per hectare making a suitable hybrid in higher potential areas under irrigation.

YELLOW HYBRID MAIZE - CAP 122-60

CAP 122-60 is a medium-season hybrid with strong prolificacy and long, cylindrical cobs with semi-dent grain. Under irrigation and high-potential conditions, it has achieved yields of up to 15 t/ha at plant populations of 70,000-100,000 plants/ha. It also has potential for silage production of more than 75 t/ha.

YELLOW HYBRID MAIZE - CAP 9444 NG

CAP 9444 NG is a medium-season cultivar reaching physiological maturity in approximately 120-135 days. It offers moderate resistance to Northern Leaf Blight, Rust and general leaf diseases. In areas with high Grey Leaf Spot pressure, a strict preventative spray programme is recommended.

WHITE HYBRID MAIZE - CAP 95-69 RRBT

A medium-season hybrid suited to both dryland and supplementary irrigation, with planting populations ranging from 20,000 to 55,000 plants/ha. CAP 95-69 RRBT reaches 50% flowering in approximately 70-80 days and physiological maturity in 117-145 days, and includes YieldGard Maize 2 and Roundup Ready Maize 2 technology.
