As winter approaches, planning your forage programme is critical. At Capstone Seeds, we offer a range of proven pasture and annual varieties designed to deliver reliable grazing, strong dry matter production and improved animal performance under varying conditions.

STOOLING RYE –
SOUTHERN BLUE
A trusted local cultivar offering quick feed and strong persistence where irrigation is limited.
Performs exceptionally well when over-sown into Kikuyu in late autumn, providing early grazing.
WHITE OATS – TARGA
High forage yielding variety with excellent early growth. Trials show up to 25% more dry matter than standard varieties, with higher metabolisable energy when grazed late season.
PLANTAIN – TONIC®
High dry matter producer exceeding 15 t DM/ha/year under favourable conditions. Supports improved milk and meat production, higher liveweight gains and enhanced animal health through elevated mineral content.
PERENNIAL RYEGRASS –
FIFTY 50
Persistent, high-producing perennial with strong autumn and summer growth. Late heading and resilient under hard grazing and dry periods.
WESTERWOLD RYEGRASS –
PASSEREL PLUS
Cool season diploid ryegrass delivering rapid regrowth, strong rust tolerance and high-quality forage with consistently strong trial performance.
SPRING RYE –
SOUTHERN GREEN
Fast-growing spring type rye suited to March–May planting. Excellent cold tolerance and high palatability for quick grazing systems.
WHITE OATS – BRUNSWICK
Best suited to high rainfall or irrigated areas. Excellent early vigour, wide leaves for maximised production and strong rust tolerance.
RED OATS – RED DAWN
Provides early forage before ryegrass peaks. Ideal in mixtures to extend grazing through to November or December.
Selecting the right winter forage mix ensures consistent feed supply, improved animal performance and better system resilience. Speak to the Capstone Seeds team to tailor a solution suited to your farm this season.
